Creating a Sustainable Agro Tech Hub: Startup Wise Guys Partners with Andalusian Government in Almería

Back to News

We at Startup Wise Guys are thrilled to announce our partnership with the Andalusian Government in an initiative to transform Almería into a global leader in sustainable agriculture through open innovation. This project aims to create an industrial hub that promotes technological advancement and efficiency in the agricultural sectors. Our collaboration focuses on fostering connections between emerging startups and large corporations, building a dynamic ecosystem where innovative solutions can flourish, driving both economic growth and environmental sustainability in Almería. We aim to launch the call for startups and projects in September and to start working with the selected ones in Q4.

Why we are doing it

Our mission is to create impact in the Andalucía region, establish stronger companies, create employment, and bring opportunities for growth and nurturing internationally, all while being rooted in the local ecosystem.

We are looking at introducing innovation in ecosystems that might have strong industrial leadership in a particular vertical. By putting together three drivers of innovation—linking large companies with startups, internationalizing SMEs through partnerships and expansion, and fostering growth and innovation in startups alongside corporates—we create unique ecosystems with an international focus.”

Cristobal Alonso, CEO at Startup Wise Guys

The collaboration with the Almería City Council focuses on cultivating an industrial ecosystem centered on sustainable agriculture. This partnership is key to the flagship project, “Open Innovation and Sustainability in the Auxiliary Industry of Almería’s Agriculture,” aimed at creating new sustainable industrial ecosystems.

Promoting Open Innovation

This partnership not only accelerates startups but also promotes open innovation, encouraging large corporations to engage with emerging companies. This fosters knowledge and resource exchange, creating a dynamic environment where startups and established companies thrive. By integrating open innovation, we ensure continuous development of fresh, creative solutions, propelling the sector forward.

Commitment to Industry and Legislative Support

The Andalusian Government’s commitment to industry is reflected in its membership in the Andalusian Network of Industrial Cities. The recent draft of the Andalusian Productive Spaces Law (LEPA) aims to enhance industrial areas, improve infrastructure and services, and provide legal security to facilitate the establishment of industries. The law seeks to establish a governance model based on public-private collaboration, improve infrastructure and services, and increase the quality, safety, and training in productive spaces.
