Applications Are Now Open for the Western Balkan Accelerator Program

Back to News

A few months ago, in Prishtina, we brought together founders, ecosystem builders, institutions, and international partners to discuss a fundamental question:

What does it really take to build a sustainable startup ecosystem in an emerging market?

One of the clearest conclusions from the Kosovo Startup Ecosystem Forum was that ambition is not the problem. Talent is not the problem either. What early-stage ecosystems often need most is structure: the right support, at the right time, for the right founders.

That is exactly the context in which the Western Balkan Accelerator Program was built.

A next step, not a standalone initiative

If the Forum was a moment of alignment, this program is a step into execution.

The Western Balkan Accelerator Program, run by Startup Wise Guys with the support of EBRD and the Swiss Entrepreneurship Programme (Swiss EP), and in collaboration with ecosystem partners including STIKK, Makerspace Innovation Center Prizren, and Zephyr Angels, is designed for early-stage B2B startups from Kosovo and North Macedonia that already have an MVP and some early traction, whether that means first users, pilot projects, LOIs, or initial paying customers.

The goal is simple: help strong local founders become more structured, more market-ready, and more prepared to grow beyond their home market.

This is not a generic startup program. It is built around a specific reality that many founders in the region know well: small domestic markets, limited access to early-stage capital, and a strong need to build with international ambition from day one.

Why this matters now

In emerging ecosystems, timing matters.

Founders are often pushed too early toward fundraising, acceleration, or scale, before they have the fundamentals in place. At the same time, many promising teams are left without the practical support, external perspective, and access to networks that could help them move faster and make better decisions.

That gap is what this accelerator is meant to address.

Through a hybrid format combining online sessions with in-person bootcamps in Prishtina and Skopje, the program will support selected founders on the core areas that matter most at this stage: go-to-market, sales, product development, finance, fundraising, legal readiness, strategic partnerships, and investor preparation.

The approach is practical, not theoretical. Founders will work through workshops, mentor sessions, founder talks, peer learning, and pitch preparation, all designed to help them make real progress on their business.

Built for founders who are already building

The program is not for idea-stage teams.

It is for founders who have already started building something real and now need the structure, pressure, and support to move to the next level.

We are looking for startups that:

  • are building from Kosovo or North Macedonia
  • have at least an MVP
  • show early traction
  • are building B2B solutions
  • have the ambition to grow internationally
  • are ready to commit the time and focus needed to get the most out of the program

Relevant sectors include SaaS, AI, cybersecurity, sustainability, fintech, and other digital B2B solutions across industries.

Selected startups will also have the opportunity to be considered for a €50,000 convertible investment, with follow-on investment potential of up to €250,000.

Applications are now open

Applications for the Western Balkan Accelerator Program are now officially open.

The final deadline is May 18, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, which means early applications are strongly encouraged.

If you are building a B2B startup in Kosovo or North Macedonia, already have an MVP and some early traction, and want to strengthen your path toward growth, this program may be a strong fit.

Why Startup Wise Guys

For Startup Wise Guys, this program reflects a broader belief: founder potential exists everywhere, but access does not.

Headquartered in Estonia, Startup Wise Guys is one of the most active early-stage VC funds in the Baltics and CEE. Since 2012, it has invested in more than 480 startups and run over 55 accelerator programs across different geographies and verticals.

What matters most, however, is not volume. It is knowing how to work with founders at the right moment, when they have enough traction to move seriously, but still need support to sharpen their business, avoid common mistakes, and prepare for the next stage of growth.

That is the opportunity this program is designed to offer.
